Dr. Jennifer J. Beck, MD

Jennifer J. Beck, MD is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist who has completed Fellowship-Training in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and Surgical Sports Medicine. A former athlete in soccer, dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading, she developed an early passion for sports medicine after experiencing her own injuries. She attended UCLA obtaining a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology while working as a student Athletic Trainer and as an assistant in physical therapy clinics. She moved to Chicago for medical school at Rosalind Franklin University/Chicago Medical School and Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Loyola Medical Center. Her fellowship training took her back to UCLA for Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery then to Boston Children’s Hospital for her Sports Medicine Fellowship. She began her career at a large academic practice at UCLA. Getting back to her family and roots in Colorado, Dr. Beck returned to Colorado in 2021 to provide sports medicine care for all ages in greater Denver and Boulder areas.

Dr. Beck has been very active in promoting and advocating for diversity in orthopedic surgery during her career. Dr. Beck has been an active member of the Ruth Jackson Orthopedic Society (RJOS) since medical school. This society is a committed to promoting and supporting female orthopedic surgeons throughout all stages in their career. Additionally, she has participated in and supported a yearly Perry Initiative (PI) in Chicago and Los Angeles, with hopes to bring this program to Denver. The Perry Initiative provides education and hands on exposure to STEM and orthopedic surgery careers to high school and medical school females. Both programs are named after trailblazing females in orthopedic surgery, Ruth Jackson and Jacqueline Perry.

Aside from her clinical practice, Dr. Beck has a research focus on sports medicine topics such as postoperative pain management, discoid meniscus classifications/outcomes/treatments, return to sport testing after ACL reconstruction in adolescent athletes, patellofemoral surgical outcomes, health care disparities in young athletes, female athlete disparities, youth running epidemiology and injury incidences, QSVI in youth sports, among others. She has participated in numerous POSNA committees including the former Chair of the POSNA QSVI: Sports subsection as well as a member of the POSNA Safe Surgery Program Committee, Bone Health Committee, Publications Committee, and Research Committee. She was a 2019 POSNA Travelling Fellow and was awarded a 2021 POSNA 5 Star General for the QSVI Challenge. Additionally, she was the Chair of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) Meniscus Research Interest Group and a Member at Large for the PRiSM Board of Directors. She has provided over 80 lectures and presentations and authored over 10 book chapters and 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Beck’s continued contributions and dedication to the underserved pediatric and women’s medical populations will help to make a lasting impact on orthopedics and sports medicine. She is excited to partner with many impressive women in the Denver Women’s Sports Collective to collaborate and educate other women in sports on orthopedic issues common to women/children and how to advocate for more women in the sports medicine field.
